Tobiano Named Best Public Course in BC by SCOREGolf

(Tobiano, B.C.) The independent panel of golf course raters for Canada’s most respected golf publication, SCOREGolf Magazine, has named Tobiano the Best Public Course in British Columbia.

In addition to this prestigious award, SCOREGolf also named Tobiano the Best Conditioned Golf Course in the province.

The 2009 Awards follow Tobiano being named the Best New Course in Canada for 2008 by both SCOREGolf and Golf Digest Magazine.

“This recognition by such an expert panel and a publication that truly is the voice of golf in Canada is a great honour,” said Miles Mortensen, General Manager and Director of Golf, Tobiano. “The Best Public and Best Conditioned Awards firmly establish that Tobiano is no longer just the best new course but is now one of the finest courses in a province, and country, blessed with some of the best golf courses in the world.

“The Best Public is a tribute to the vision of developer Michael Grenier and the dedication of our entire staff; the Best Conditioned well-deserved recognition of the talent and tireless effort of Superintendent Terry Smith and his great crew.”

Five sets of tees, ranging from 5,358 yards to a robust 7,367 yards, invite players to experience and enjoy the Thomas McBroom-designed Tobiano their own way. With views of the pristine Kamloops Lake from every hole, dramatic elevation changes, untouched arroyos with natural grasses and cacti, welcoming fairways and smooth enticing greens, Tobiano is one of the finest and most picturesque golf courses anywhere.

“When we first envisioned this one-of-a-kind resort community project, we knew that the centrepiece would be a fine, world-class golf course,” said Michael Grenier, President of Pagebrook Inc., developer of Tobiano. “Thomas McBroom’s masterful design and the efforts of Miles and Terry and their entire staffs have made that vision a reality, as these SCOREGolf Awards confirm. As we now move forward with the spectacular marina and the next phase of our housing development, each day ‘Tobiano living’ is a more attractive and attainable reality.”

Watching over the centrepiece of Tobiano, from the first day of construction, has been Superintendent Terry Smith. “ The comments from golfers about the fairways and greens, and the smiles on their faces, have been reward enough for myself and my crews,” said Smith. “But this Best Conditioned award from SCOREGolf is extremely gratifying when I think of all the great and long-established private and public courses in B.C. This will really inspire myself and my crews to live up to the recognition and make Tobiano even better in the years ahead.”

Construction of the Tobiano resort began 44 months ago. Primary infrastructure including the resort’s golf course, municipal water and sewer treatment plants, reservoir and water pumping station were followed by the extension of approximately 6.5 kms of internal paved roads and underground services, and the relocation of 1.4 kms of the Trans Canada Highway. A 220-slip marina and multiphase equestrian centre will soon be under construction. More than 320 detached lots and townhouse sites have been purchased, with the first homes and town homes completed and occupied. For more information visit www.tobianoliving.com
