New Pete Dye nine opens at Casa de Campo resort in Dominican Republic

(LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic) - With golf season in full swing, Casa de Campo -- the 7,000-acre luxury resort in the Dominican Republic -- announces the official opening of Pete Dye's newest nine holes for a total of 63 holes of play for resort guests on Teeth of the Dog, The Links and Dye Fore. Pete Dye's new nine, Dye Fore Lakes, is located near the Altos de Chavon artisan village and will connect with Dye Fore Chavon, the original north nine of Dye Fore, and the Marina Nine, the original south nine, to create an amazing 27-hole complex.

The first golfers to experience Pete Dye's new nine at Casa de Campo were the 268 players who participated in the 30th Annual Casa de Campo Open from Sept. 14 - 18. "We thought it would be fun to have these golfers, many of whom have been coming to Casa de Campo for 30 years now, to be among the first to experience a new added dimension to our Dye Fore," said Gilles Gagnon, director of golf operations at the resort.

Pete Dye, one of the world's most legendary golf course designers and the only course designer at Casa de Campo, said he built the new nine to decrease distances between nines and the Dye Fore clubhouse. "It took five years to build and when you have so much time you keep looking at it, trying to see the long views," said Dye. "There's about 20 acres of lakes up there, so high in spots all you see are mountains and ocean. I really like it."

Having completed a $40 million hotel redesign program in December 2010, Casa de Campo is the Caribbean's premier golf destination. Teeth of the Dog, with seven holes on the Caribbean Sea, opened in 1971 and consistently ranks as the top course in the Caribbean and one of the top courses in the world -- most recently ranked No. 47 on Golf Magazines' Top 100 Courses in the World (September 2011). The Links, an inland course opened in 1976, is currently under total renovation and will reopen as a new course in late February 2012. Dye Fore opened for play in 2001 as an 18-hole course at the Altos de Chavon artists' village. With seven cliff-side holes dropping 300 feet to the Chavon River and dramatic 360 degree views of the Chavon River, Dominican mountains, Casa de Campo Marina and Altos de Chavon, Dye Fore now additionally features Dye Fore Lakes to create the new course with 27 spectacular holes to play.

For ease of arrival, starting Nov. 16 JetBlue offers direct flights between JFK and La Romana Airport (LRM) -- just eight minutes from check-in; American Airlines now offers daily non-stop service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and La Romana Airport (LRM) and starting Nov. 18, twice weekly flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
