Jack Nicklaus’ First British Open Win at Muirfield Portrayed in 'Jack’s Majors' Fine Art Collection

1966 Open Victory Part of Artistic Tribute to Nicklaus’ Unprecedented 18 Major Titles

(Bonita Springs, FL) — Jack Nicklaus won the first of his three British Open titles in 1966 at Muirfield in Scotland, site of this week’s championship.  His victory at Muirfield was Nicklaus’ sixth major in his eventual record-setting string of 18 major championship victories. The win also marked the golfer’s entry into the exclusive Grand Slam club, where he joined Gene Sarazen and Ben Hogan as the only players to have achieved this rare professional feat.

World-renowned golf artist Walt Spitzmiller’s extraordinary collection of paintings simply entitled Jack’s Majors captures Nicklaus’ memorable maiden British Open win and chronicles the ensuing 12 major victories (which included two more Open wins at St. Andrews in 1970 and 1978) in an eloquent and unprecedented artistic tribute.  Spitzmiller spent eight years painting what he believes is golf’s greatest achievement of the modern era:  Jack Nicklaus’ 18 major championship titles.  Each painting brings to life a special moment from the “Golden Bear’s” unmatched legacy.

Spitzmiller’s painting of Nicklaus executing a shot from one of Muirfield’s menacing bunkers captures the champion’s intense focus and determination as he expertly navigated the venerable links course to secure his first win in Scotland.  In deference to the proliferation of some 170 pot bunkers, Nicklaus elected only to use his driver 17 times over the four rounds of competition.

In addition to the art collection, Jack’s Majors is available in an exquisite and strictly limited edition Portfolio book.  Only 100 museum-quality volumes numbered and signed by Jack Nicklaus and the artist will be made available on a custom order basis. The oversize hand bound and luxuriously crafted Portfolio includes 18 giclee art prints (18” x 24”), along with accompanying text that recounts the highlights of each tournament victory by best-selling
golf author, Don Wade.
