El Campeón Rated No. 2 Golf Course in Nation by Golf Advisor

Iconic Course Mainstay of Florida’s “Historic Golf Trail”

(HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.) – The 99-year-old El Campeón Golf Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club has been ranked the second-best course in the nation and the best in Florida for 2015 by Golf Advisor, the leading website community of reviewers.

In the recently announced “Best Of Golf Advisor 2015” Top 25 U.S. rankings, El Campeón received a Five-Star designation overall, the highest ranking possible.

Opened in 1917, the El Campeón (“The Champion”) is one of the South’s vintage 18-hole courses. An original member of the 53-course Florida Historic Golf Trail, El Campeón showcases classic design as well as sharp elevation changes unique to the region.

“It is a distinct honor to be ranked second in the entire country by Golf Advisor,” said Donna Beucher Line, part of the family ownership of Mission Inn Resort & Club. “We appreciate the Golf Advisor contributors recognizing El Campeón’s blend of Old Florida charm and tradition, along with its variety of shot-making challenges.”

Golf Advisor is committed to sharing golfers’ first-hand experiences at courses around the world. The U.S. rankings were compiled using reviews from everyday users, as well as expert lists from the Golf Advisor editorial team.

“From start to finish it's a great experience,” one Golf Advisor reviewer posted. “Plenty of F/B service on the course. Course was in pristine condition. Greens were superb. It's not your typical resort course. When you play it, you know it's almost 100 years old. It just feels historic.”

Located in the rolling hills of Central Florida’s citrus country 35 minutes northwest of Orlando, the iconic Mission Inn Resort boasts two of Florida’s finest courses – El Campeón and Las Colinas. Mission Inn also is home to the nationally acclaimed Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy.

Along with outstanding golf, Mission Inn Resort offers numerous activities including hiking and biking, tennis, fishing on nearby Lake Harris, and trap and skeet shooting. There’s also swimming, a fitness center, and the Spa Marbella.

Built in classic Spanish Colonial style, the resort’s main buildings feature 176 graciously appointed guestrooms, suites, and villas, as well as three restaurants and two lounges. Mission Inn is also a favorite destination for weddings, as well as a popular base for wine tours of local vineyards and wineries.
