Product Review: Legendary Headwear with CLOUD-FIT Technology

If you’ve ever stayed at a luxurious hotel and had the pleasure of sleeping with a technologically advanced pillow, you know the joys of their cooling features. Legendary Headwear has now brought that comfort to their already-impressive hat collection.

Introducing CLOUD-FIT technology. The interior sweatband in this collection boasts memory foam that has been infused with temperature-regulating gel. The C200 mesh-back cap has instantly become one of my go-to hats on - and off - the golf course.

“Why this hat?” one may ask. Well, since getting serious about protecting myself from the damaging affects of the sun, I’ve given up the romanticized idea of bronze glow on my face and always don a cap. Problem is, I often overheat and spend half my time removing the hat and wiping sweat from my brow. Problem solved. The C200 with CLOUD-FIT tech is as functional as it is fashionable.

If you prefer fitted caps over “trucker caps,” Legendary Headwear also offers the Perfecto-C and Cloud Elite hats with CLOUD-FIT technology. Both are stretch fit (available in S/M and L/XL) and offer “half pipe” CLOUD-FIT. The Perfecto-C is constructed of cotton, while the Cloud Elite is made from Diamond Pro performance fabric, designed to wick away moisture.

Check out the entire catalog at legendaryheadwear.com.

Circling back to protection from the sun ... I recommend pairing the hat with a generous dose of sunscreen (minimum of SPF 30) and sunglasses for UV protection. Stay safe and look great for years to come.

Pinehurst¹s Dormie Club Under New Ownership, Joins Network of Private Destination Golf Clubs

(LINCOLN, Nebraska) — Dormie Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina has been purchased by Nebraska-based golf investment company Hainoa, LLC, making it the latest addition to the Dormie Network—a network of destination golf clubs. Under new ownership, the renowned Coore-Crenshaw club will see a number of immediate renovations and upgrades (including the construction of a new clubhouse, halfway house, and on-site lodging accommodations) as it gradually returns to its original status as a private course.

Dormie Club is a short drive from the Village of Pinehurst, an area widely known as the Home of American Golf. Though not far removed from area conveniences, the club’s size and layout seclude its golfers from roadways and residential real estate, providing an unadulterated pure golf experience.

The highly anticipated 2010 opening of Dormie Club was met by rave reviews, including a No. 3 ranking in Golfweek’s list of best new courses. Designed by Bill Coore and two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw—who form one of the most renowned golf course architecture teams in the world—the 18-hole course features 110-foot elevation changes, three natural lakes, and an aesthetic that draws inspiration from the Scottish Highlands. “Dormie Club stretches across a massive 1,020-acre expanse of absolutely stunning land,” says Dormie Club’s Membership Director Mike Phillips. “It features a mix of pine trees and hardwoods and the beautiful 55-acre Coles Mill Lake that dates back to the early 1900s.”

Its Old World-design includes a number of reachable par fours, wind tunnels, bunkers positioned to stimulate creative strategy, and a 241-yard reverse Redan par three. The course features Bermuda fairways and tees with bent grass greens; it has five sets of tees and measures up to 6,883 yards with a rating of 73.7 and a slope of 138. It is currently ranked No.3 among the best courses you can play in North Carolina by both Golf Magazine and Golfweek and the 12th best course in North Carolina by Golf Digest.

Straying from its original concept, Dormie Club extended play to non-members almost immediately after opening and today remains a public course. As part of the Dormie Network, it will transition immediately from public to semi-private and eventually to private status with invitation-only membership by 2020.

Now under the management of Landscapes Unlimited, LLC, Dormie Club will see a number of critical course enhancements, as well as several large-scale renovations and improvements. Plans to construct a full-service clubhouse and halfway house are already underway. Landscapes Unlimited will also oversee the addition of lodging accommodations, including on-site cottages and executive suites.

“Dormie Club is a truly exceptional club that was conceptualized as and designed to be a high-end private course,” explains Zach Peed of Dormie Network. “Our vision is to make it one of the finest pure golf destination courses in the region.”

With the acquisition, Dormie Club joins the ranks of Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas; ArborLinks in Nebraska City, Nebraska; and Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke, Virginia as part of the Dormie Network. Corporate and national memberships include access to and full member privileges at all courses within the network—each of which is currently ranked among the top 10 in its respective state.

“Dormie Club is a renowned course,” says Peed. “It’s already a tremendous value to our current and future members, but the club’s incredible potential and the vision we have for what it can be make it an ideal addition to the Dormie Network.”

(SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.) - Eaton announced that its Golf Pride Grips Division was the grip brand of choice for the winners of the recently completed 2017 Race to the CME Globe on the LPGA Tour and the 2017 Race to Dubai points competition on the European Tour. With the conclusion of the points series season on all four tours, Golf Pride amassed a total of 140 victories in 2017, with the next closest competitor recording 13. In fact, the brand had 3 distinct performance grip models that claimed more victories than any of its competitors’ entire product lines. The company’s fastest growing full cord grip, Z Grip, also achieved 12 tournament triumphs in 2017.

Tour Edge Announces Three Additional Lofts in New Exotics CBX Hybrid Line, New TrueLoft System

(RELEASE) - Tour Edge, Golf’s Most Solid Investment, officially releases three new lofts in their wildly-successful Exotics CBX hybrid line, making for six total lofts available in the new clubs that have earned significant usage and top finishes on the PGA Champions Tour.

The Exotics CBX hybrid is the first ever Titanium face, Stainless Steel body and Carbon Fiber sole hybrid design ever produced.

Tour Edge is adding three new lofts 17° 19°, 22° that will be available to tour players and consumers alike. The new lofts will begin shipping to Authorized Tour Edge retailers on December 15th.

Six different loft options makes the Exotics CBX the most extensive hybrid line available with more lofts available than any other manufacturer that has hybrids in play on the professional tours.

The Exotics CBX full line now consists of 16°, 17°, 18°, 19°, 20° and 22° in hybrids as well as four lofts in two different finishes available in the Exotics CBX Iron-Wood that was recently put into play on the PGA TOUR.

This unprecedented range in hybrid lofts provides a loft for every possible distance scenario and also provides the golfer the ability to expertly choose the best gaps for shots off the tee and/or shots from the fairway or rough. The Tour Edge R&D team expects an average of six to eight yards in between each loft, giving the Exotics  CBX a 36-48 yard distance range from 16° to 22°.

Tour Edge has implemented a new system for their Exotics CBX hybrids they call their TrueLoft System. Through extra quality control methods in the bending process of unfinished heads, plus a triple-check on loft and lie in the final stages of the club head making process, Tour Edge is committed to making sure that each  club head fits the exact loft that is listed on the club head.

“Tour players need to be dialed in to the exact yard with their hybrids, which can be a very hard feat to accomplish,” said Master Club Designer and President of Tour Edge David Glod. “With six available lofts and four more with our CBX Iron-Woods, we are making a commitment to the hybrid category like no one else in the  industry. We wanted to make sure that each loft serves its exact purpose and that is why we implemented the TrueLoft System in our R&D process. In the end, we end up rejecting more heads than what others would and that leaves us knowing that our investment is paying off in spades on the golf course.”

Tour Edge went the route of adding lofts instead of opting for an adjustable hybrid as they have done in the past despite the extra costs involved because of their non-willingness to sacrifice an additional 15 grams to the neck of the clubhead that is needed to facilitate an adjustable hosel.

“With Exotics, our design standards of efficiency and purity really go all the way to the top,” said Glod . “There is no wasted neck weight with these heads and there is zero face angle manipulation that is caused by a changeable hosel. The Exotics CBX design was made to be as pure of a tour design as they come so adding lofts  instead of adjustability was an easy call to make sure that we maintained that purity.”

The new Exotics CBX hybrid integrates new technology designed to push the boundaries of low-spin distance combined with tour-inspired feel and workability.

The new Exotics CBX fairway woods and hybrids were designed with a multimaterial construction that includes the top of the line in Beta Titanium, Hyper Steel and Carbon Composite materials. This unique combination of three different materials helps produce a penetrating ball flight that cuts through windy conditions  and lowers side spin rates for greater accuracy.

They are currently the only Titanium face fairway woods and hybrids available for sale in the U.S. market.

The Exotics CBX products feature a higher CG that is located slightly forward in the club head through the use of a carbon fiber in the sole, which is significantly lighter than stainless steel. This helps to increase ball speed and reduce spin, which makes  for less dispersion. Tour Edge’s extremely thin Beta-titanium cup-face enlarges the ideal hitting area on the clubs. The higher CG location minimizes spin for optimal low-spin distance and tour preferred penetrating trajectory.

“All Exotics products embrace new materials and manufacturing methods” said Glod. “We call it our material advantage and it’s the very DNA of all Exotics products; the CBX hybrid is our latest example of this ethos.”

Highlighting the face is the Exotics variable face thickness (VFT technology) for forgiveness on off-center hits and to promote faster ball speeds. It is brazed to stainless steel behind the hitting area which allows the face to flex more at impact.

The CBX hybrid comes with premium high-performance stock shaft options: Project X HZRDUS Black, Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage Silver Dual-Core Tini. The clubs come standard with Lamkin Z5 grips. The suggested retail price is $249.99.

Honma Golf Opens Southern California Gallery Store

(HARBOR CITY, CA) -  Honma Golf USA - one of golf’s highest-end equipment brands – last night opened a gallery concept retail and club fitting space within the popular Roger Dunn Golf Shops’ Santa Ana, Calif. 60,000-square-foot superstore.

Golfers, media and even Hollywood celebrities attended the opening gala, and were awestruck by what they experienced at the 500-square-foot, Honma-dedicated space that features the luxury brand’s clubs, bags, apparel, accessories and more.

“We heard so many positive comments from attendees,” says Adam Sheldon, general manager of Honma Golf USA. “People said they were impressed by the uniqueness of this space. It merges a club fitting and retail experience in a totally different way. We call it our gallery. While other major brands have stand-alone areas in the store, our spot is clearly a point of differentiation in the golf business. Honma is all about top-end, high-quality products. Golfers deserve quality and aspiration in their game, from the clubs they play to what they wear. And that’s reflected in our gallery and its design. It looks and feels different than any other brand in the marketplace.”

The gallery showcases the brand’s TOUR WORLD, BERES and Be ZEAL products, including sets that sell for up to $50,000 -- giving visitors an opportunity to touch, feel and hit Honma clubs, while learning about the brand and experiencing its performance and quality in the dedicated fitting bay. “It ties all of our products together, so people really get a feel of Honma,” says Sheldon. “It’s a complete brand experience -- a one-stop shop for everything we offer.”

It gives Honma a 500-square-foot opportunity to relay a specific message. A lot of our customers have heard of Honma but are not familiar with its products. Once they come in and see the products, the technology, the display and the uniqueness of the products, they will be wowed.”

Exotics CBX Iron-Wood Makes Debut on PGA TOUR in Mexico

(RELEASE) - Tour Edge finished the season strong on the PGA Champions Tour with one more CBX Exotics metalwood in play at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship this weekend.

The Exotics CBX fairway woods and hybrids are the first ever Titanium face, Stainless Steel body and Carbon Fiber sole hybrid design ever produced.

Tour Edge had the 5th most metalwoods in play among active manufacturers over the last month on tour, according to the Darrel Survey.

Exotics CBX clubs earned three Top 5 finishes, four Top 10’s and five Top 20 finishes in the 2017 Champions Tour despite only being introduced to players at five total events this season.

“The entire Exotics CBX line was designed with the tour player in mind,” said Chief Designer and President of Tour Edge David Glod. “It was designed to spin less and with a forward CG. Now these spin-killing woods have taken on a life of their own as far as the buzz that’s out there on how they perform. We have received more requests from tour players, college golfers and mini-tour players on these products than anything else we have ever released and they are starting to make their way onto the PGA TOUR on their own accord.”

The new Exotics CBX fairway woods and hybrid were designed with a multi-material construction that includes the top of the line in Beta Titanium, Hyper Steel and Carbon Composite materials. This unique combination of three different materials helps produce a penetrating ball flight that cuts through windy conditions and lowers side spin rates for greater accuracy.

They are currently the only Titanium face fairway woods and hybrids available for sale in the U.S. market.

The Exotics CBX features a higher CG that is located slightly forward in the club head through the use of a carbon fiber in the sole, which is significantly lighter than stainless steel. This helps to increase ball speed and reduce spin, which makes for less dispersion. Tour Edge’s extremely thin Beta-titanium cup-face enlarges the ideal hitting area on the clubs. It is brazed to stainless steel behind the hitting area which allows the face to flex more at impact.

This has led to independent robot tests that have shown the Exotics CBX to average more than 16 yards longer in distance than several of the best selling fairway woods on the market. The Speed Ramp sole design on the Exotics CBX products provide reduced turf interaction so the club can maintain its speed through the hitting area.

The Exotics CBX Iron-Wood that was put into play on the PGA TOUR this week is a club that features a new ground-breaking high-tensile steel ‘L’ cup face design that pushes the classic iron-wood design to provide maximum forgiveness and explosiveness off the face. Delivering powerful distance with minimal spin, the CBX takes aim at players who want hybrid performance combined with the feel and workability of a traditional forged iron design.

The Tour Edge Exotics CBX fairway woods, Exotics CBX hybrids and Exotics CBX Iron-woods have already shipped to select authorized Tour Edge retailers and are available for purchase immediately. To find a Tour Edge retailer near you, call (800) 515-3343 or visit touredge.com.

Relying on a full 14-club bag of TaylorMade equipment, the Spaniard - who was named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year earlier in the week - fired a final round 67 to finish on 19-under-par for the week, a shot clear of his nearest rival.

- Jon Rahm, following his third worldwide victory this calendar year

- In addition to his distance and accuracy off the tee, Rahm putted brilliantly all week, as he finished in the top three in both putts per green & putts per round categories, trusting his TaylorMade Spider Tour Red to make 24 birdies on the week.
- While ineligible to win PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors, Rahm’s performance during the year earned him the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year for 2017 on the European Tour.
- The victory is the third in four weeks for TaylorMade Tour staffers, following Justin Rose’s back-to-back wins in China & Turkey.

Kelsey Chugg Defeats Mary Jane Hiestand to Win 31st U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship

(HOUSTON, Texas) - The first stroke-play round of her U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship debut last Saturday didn’t go so well for Kelsey Chugg.

That’s not so well, as in a 13-over-par 85 on Champions Golf Club’s Cypress Creek Course. As in a closing stretch of 7 over par on her final six holes that left her “crying a little bit” in her car. But she spoke with her coach, Lynsey Myers, afterward and rebounded with an even-par 72 on Sunday to earn the No. 50 seed in match play. Four days and six match-play victories later, she is the 31st U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion.

“I was pretty upset,” recalled Chugg, 26, of Salt Lake City, Utah. “I was playing pretty well coming into this and I was mad at myself. My coach said, ‘Just go practice; get your head in the game and get your tempo back.’”

From Sunday through Thursday, Chugg kept an incredibly even keel, never needing to play the 18th hole in any of her six wins. She defeated two of the three co-medalists (2015 champion Lauren Greenlief and Marissa Mar) along the way and capped her charge with a 3-and-1 victory on Thursday over No. 56 seed Mary Jane Hiestand, 58, of Naples, Fla. Her early stroke-play struggles seemed a distant memory, and she was still in disbelief after her victory earned her a berth in the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open at Shoal Creek, Ala. – the first player to take advantage of that recently announced exemption.

“It’s just been a crazy week – I can’t believe I pulled it off,” said Chugg, who is the membership director for the Utah Golf Association. “This is really exciting for me to be able to bring this home for Utah and the golf community there.”

Chugg’s victory dashed the hopes of Hiestand, who was bidding to become the oldest Women’s Mid-Amateur champion by six years. Hiestand’s run to the final was much more dramatic than Chugg’s – it included a pair of 1-up wins on Tuesday and two 19-hole victories on Wednesday, including a semifinal win over No. 4 seed Shannon Johnson, last year’s runner-up, which was capped by Hiestand’s 48-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole.

“I knew she was a seasoned player, and I heard she was a really good putter,” said Chugg of Hiestand, who was competing in her 43rd USGA championship. “She lived up to her name; on the first hole she drained a 24-footer for par, and it got to me.”

Chugg gathered herself and won Nos. 2 and 3. The third hole, a 352-yard par 4, provided the biggest swing of the match, as Chugg looked to be in trouble when a poor chip left her with a par putt from 38 feet. Hiestand was on in two, and her putt from just outside Chugg’s ball left her with a 4-footer for par. However, Chugg made hers and Hiestand missed, and Chugg had a lead she would never relinquish.

“She had a similar line to me [with her birdie putt], and I was like, I think I can make this,” said Chugg. “[Caddie] Chris [Schuhmann] and I agreed on the line, and I just said, keep your head down and hit the putt, and it went right in the center.”

Hiestand had chances on three consecutive holes – Nos. 7, 8 and 9 – to whittle her two-hole deficit, but every putt slid past the edge. Chugg cited her own up-and-down from a bunker on No. 7 that forced Hiestand to make birdie to win the hole. When Hiestand three-putted the par-4 10th hole for bogey as Chugg made a comfortable two-putt par, she was 3 down.

“I made nothing,” said Hiestand, whose previous best USGA finish was the semifinal round in the 2013 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur. “All three of them were right over the edge of the hole. It’s a putter’s golf course and that’s my game. For me not to make anything is amazing, but you have those days.”

Hiestand slipped to 4 down after she missed the green long and left on the par-5 13th for a bogey and Chugg made a testing 5½-footer for par. Chugg suffered a couple of lapses on No. 14 (where a poor approach led to a double bogey) and No. 16 (she flew the green and failed to get up and down), but she was able to close out Hiestand on the 17th hole when her opponent three-putted and conceded Chugg’s short par putt.

“I think I just lost focus for a second on No. 14,” said Chugg, whose best previous finish in five USGA starts was the Round of 32 in the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links. “I was just happy not to have to play another hole, because I was leaking oil a little bit.”

“Kudos to her – she’s a real solid player,” said Hiestand. “She made everything today. That’s what it takes to win a championship.”

Chugg, who becomes the fifth player from Utah to win a USGA championship, was asked whether she might have snuck up on some of her opponents, most of whom might not have been acquainted with the former Weber State University player who has won her home state amateur title four times.

“It’s funny – on Tuesday when I was going to play Lauren Greenlief, [two-time champion] Julia Potter’s fiancé, Kiel [Bobb] told me, ‘That’s going to be a tough match – but she doesn’t know who she’s up against,’” said Chugg. “That gave me some confidence, him telling me that.”

A little confidence – along with that post-round discussion with her coach on Saturday – helped earn Chugg the Mildred Prunaret Trophy and a spot in the U.S. Women’s Open.

Both finalists are exempt into the 2018 U.S. Women’s Amateur at The Golf Club of Tennessee, in Kingston Springs, Tenn. Additionally, the winner receives a 10-year U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur exemption, while the runner-up receives a three-year exemption.

The USGA relocated this championship from Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Fla., to Champions Golf Club due to extensive flood damage from Hurricane Irma. The Women’s Mid-Amateur was originally scheduled to be played Oct. 7-12.

The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.

Product Review: Cobra King F7 Driver

The Cobra King F7 driver will change the way you play. Bold statement, but I can’t remember the last time a product came in for review that created so much buzz.

First off, never before have we seen a driver with so much diversity. The King F7 is billed as “3 Drivers in One,” but it’s actually more, thanks to the eight adjustable loft settings.

We’ll get to the lofts, but let’s focus on the “3” for a moment. That’s based on the three different center of gravity settings - front, back and heel. Depending on the position, the King F7 will produce three different ball flights.
1. Move the heavier 12g colored weight to the front position for a lower, penetrating ball flight with less spin and more roll;
2. Place the weight in the back position for a higher, towering ball flight with added spin for more carry; and
3. When moved to the heel position, it works to create more draw spin to correct a slice.

Changing the loft on the King F7 driver is simple
The trifecta of CG! Pick your position and fire away.

As for the loft settings, in only three steps you can adjust to these eight options: 9° / 9.5° / 9.5° Draw / 10.5° / 10.5° Draw / 11.5°  / 11.5° Draw / 12°. The three steps:
1. Remove the shaft insert with the provided wrench;
2. Rotate the shaft until your desired lost appears in the window; and
3. Tighten the screw. A noticeable click means the loft has been completed successfully.

Note: For each increased/decreased degree of loft, your trajectory will change +/- .7 degrees and your spin rate will change up to 300 rpm.

Testing the Engineering
For testing purposes, we tried each of the three CG settings at 10.5 degrees. For comparison, my current driver carries approximately 240 yards, has a spin rate around 3,000 rpm and launch angle of 12.

Cobra’s proprietary carbon fiber (TeXtreme ) allows for a lighter crown and moves more weight lower on the clubhead. This is done to increase distance and forgiveness.

With the CG weight in front, my carry remained around 240 yards, but spin rate dropped to 1,250 rpm and launch angle was slightly lower at 11.8 degrees. Total distance - normally at 260 yards - increased to 267 yards.

With the CG weight in the rear, carry increased to 246 yards and spin rate was consistently around 1,275 rpm. Launch angle moved back to 12 degrees, similar to the test driver.

With the CG weight at the heel, we saw carry distances and launch angle matching the test driver (240 yards and 12 degrees), but more spin (1,285) than the other two positions. The only negative of our session occurred here, with several snap hooks. That could be the added weight in the heel or user error, of course.

Another thing we noticed ... Off-center hits performed better than they did with the test driver. This could be a product of the larger “Sweet Zone” and variable thickness structure of the face that is designed to be lighter, thinner and hotter.

Track distance and accuracy with COBRA CONNECT
This is where I sound like an infomercial. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!!!

Cobra has teamed with Arccos for unprecedented stat tracking. Forget tagging, as you can automatically track the distance and accuracy of each drive. With COBRA CONNECT, all you have to do is pair your club with the free Arccos Driver smartphone app to gather performance data. The app also provides GPS distances for more than 40,000 courses worldwide. Personally, I’ve used another stat-tracking system and always forget to tag before a shot, which throws off my numbers. COBRA CONNECT does it for you automatically.

The Cobra King F7 driver originally retailed for $349, but is now $100 cheaper because the company recently introduced the F8 line to the family (available in January 2018). Read about the new F8 technology HERE. If you can do without that and want to save some money, the King F7 is an excellent driver.

Cobra Golf Introduces F8 Fairways, Hybrids for Increased Distance, Versatility from Any Lie

KING F8 and F8+ Fairways & F8 Hybrids, and the industry’s first ONE Length Hybrid, Utilize Progressive Baffler Rails & 360 o Aero Technology for Unrivaled Performance

(Carlsbad, Calif.) - Cobra Golf, a leader in golf club innovation and technology, today introduced its highest-performing and most technologically-advanced KING F8, F8+ fairways, and KING F8 hybrids. Employing COBRA’s patented Dual Baffler Rail system, cutting-edge 360o Aero Technology, premium multi-material construction, and COBRA CONNECT Powered by Arccos, the F8 family of fairways and hybrids are COBRA’s fastest, most versatile and smartest yet.

The KING F8 and F8+ fairways are designed to provide golfers of varying playing abilities a choice between maximum launch and forgiveness in the F8 model, or tour preferred shaping with maximum workability and precision in the F8+ model.

The KING F8 fairways (MAP $249) incorporate an improved Baffler Dual Rail System with tighter-spaced rails with CG centered between the rails, reducing twisting and resulting in a higher amount of clubhead speed retained upon contact with the turf.

Progressive Rail Heights dependent on club loft, (shallower in the 3W and taller in the 5W) provide consistent turf interaction for sweeping or steeper attack angles. COBRA’s 360o Aero Technology incorporates an innovative system of lightweight aero trips strategically positioned around the perimeter of the face to improve drag reduction through the downswing for increased clubhead speed.

The F8 fairways feature a larger address profile that increases MOI for more distance and forgiveness on mis-hits and a shallower face that lowers CG for improved launch and speed. Additionally, a back CG weight helps promote a towering, forgiving trajectory from a variety of turf conditions.  For the first time, COBRA’s mainline fairways feature an ultralight 5-ply Carbon Fiber crown, which saves nearly 13 grams in weight compared to the previous steel version, to move the CG even lower for the ultimate in distance and spin performance. Rounding out the performance technologies, a forged 475 Stainless Steel face insert boasting COBRA’s patented E9 Technology, a variable thickness face construction designed with an elliptical pattern Sweet Zone, creates more hot spots farther away from the center of the face for more distance on heel and toe shots.

MyFly8 technology affords golfers the choice of eight loft settings in each of three different models (3-4, 5-6 & 7-8) to fine-tune launch conditions and maximize distance while a new Smart Pad created on the rail system, maintains a square clubhead at address. Below is a rundown of lofts available in each F8 model.

3-4 FWY: (13 o, 13.5 o, 13.5 o Draw, 14.5 o, 14.5 o Draw, 15.5 o, 15.5 o Draw, 16 o)
5-6 FWY: (17 o, 17.5 o, 17.5 o Draw, 18.5 o, 18.5 o Draw, 19.5 o, 19.5 o Draw, 20 o)
7-8 FWY: (21 o, 21.5 o, 21.5 o Draw, 22.5 o, 22.5 o Draw, 23.5 o, 23.5 o Draw, 24 o)

The KING F8+ fairways (MAP $249) provide all of the same incredible technologies as the F8, in a more compact head size that better players prefer. Furthermore, in F8+ the CG weight is front-positioned leading to a more penetrating ball flight to help higher swing speed players prevent ballooning, and to perform better in all weather conditions. MyFly8 with Smart Pad technology affords golfers the choice of eight loft settings in each of two different models (3-4 & 4-5) to fine-tune launch conditions and maximize distance while keeping the clubhead square at address.  Below is a rundown of lofts available in each F8+ model.

3-4 FWY: (12 o, 12.5 o, 12.5 o Draw, 13.5 o, 13.5 o Draw, 14.5 o, 14.5 o Draw, 15 o)
5-6 FWY: (16 o, 16.5 o, 16.5 o Draw, 17.5 o, 17.5 o Draw, 18.5 o, 18.5 o Draw, 19 o)

Colors: Black/Lexi Blue and Silver/Raspberry
Shaft: Aldila NV 2KXV 50 in ladies flex (RH/LH).

The KING F8 and F8 ONE Length hybrids (MAP $199) utilize COBRA’s Baffler Dual Rail System and a new Multi-Directional Crown Aero Technology to provide more speed, forgiveness and versatility than ever before.  Like the F8 fairways, the taller and tighter-spaced rails on the F8 and F8 ONE hybrids provide more leading edge bounce, to help the club stay lower to the ground for more consistent launch from a variety of lies.  The multi-directional Aero trips on the crown made of lightweight polymer ensure optimized aerodynamic performance while maintaining a lower CG for faster clubhead speed and more distance. A sleeker clubhead design features a lowered skirt and a shorter, skinnier hosel for an extremely low CG, while a fixed weight positioned low and back results in a high, towering ball flight that delivers the ultimate in launch and distance performance.

The F8 ONE LENGTH Hybrid delivers ultimate consistency and simplicity allowing golfers to utilize one setup and one swing from their hybrids down to their irons.  To achieve optimum performance at 7-iron length, lie and swing weight, the unique design of the F8 ONE Hybrid features an upright lie angle and a heavier head weight.  A larger internal weight pad allows the CG to be moved lower and deeper resulting in a higher flying trajectory that benefits golfers who struggle to hit their ONE Length long irons up in the air.

Bobby Weed Golf Design Wins BoardRoom Magazine 2017 “Excellence in Achievement” Award

Design firm honored for Course Architecture – Renovation

(PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida) – Bobby Weed Golf Design (www.bobbyweed.com) has won the 2017 “Excellence in Achievement” Award from The BoardRoom Magazine, in the category of Course Architecture – Renovation. The award will be presented at the CMAA 91st World Conference, to take place March 2-6, 2018, in San Francisco, Calif.

“We are honored to accept this award in recognition of our renovation work this past year,” said Bobby Weed. “My design partner, Chris Monti, and I have had the privilege of bringing to fruition some fine renovation projects, where the golf courses will serve their communities well far into the future.”

Among notable Bobby Weed Golf Design projects in 2017 were the completion of the renovation of the golf course and practice facilities at Pleasant Valley Country Club, in Little Rock, Ark., and a comprehensive renovation and repurposing of Greenacres Country Club, in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Deadline Nears for Ron Balicki Scholarship - for Aspiring Golf Journalists

(RELEASE) - The Ron Balicki Scholarship for aspiring golf journalists is dedicated to the memory of Ron Balicki for his lifelong commitment to covering the game of golf.

Few individuals have done more to bring exposure to college golf than Balicki, who passed away in 2014 after a battle with cancer. Since practically inventing the college golf beat while at Golfweek in 1983, Balicki became part of the fabric of the college and amateur game. He covered his first golf tournament in 1980 while with the Florida Daily News. He won first-place and third-place in Golf Association of America writing contests and won four first-place and numerous honorable mention awards with the International Network of Golf. Balicki also won three first-place awards from the Texas Golf Writers Association. He was a winner of the Golf Writer’s Association of America Jimmy D’Angelo Award and the Northwest Florida Sports Association’s Al Byrne Award, both of which are presented to a person for contributions, devotion and service to the organization and the community. In 2016, he was named to the Emerald Coast’s All Sports Hall of Fame in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where he worked as a newspaper sports editor before joining Golfweek.

A 2010 inductee into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame, Balicki covered every NCAA Championship dating back to 1985 and every GCAA National Convention since its inception until 2013, when the cancer that claimed his life prevented him from traveling. Dubbed "Wrong Ron" for his propensity to incorrectly pick the winner of the NCAA Championships and playfully teased for his uncanny ability to bring the rain with him to events he covered, Balicki was truly fond of the sport and people he covered and was loved back by the players, coaches and everyone involved with college golf. Truly one of the kindest men one could ever meet, Ron is greatly missed.

The first Ron Balicki Scholarship will be awarded for the spring 2018 semester; a $2,500 grant will be awarded to a deserving student. Beginning for the 2018-19 academic year, $5,000 will be awarded. Any college/university student at the undergraduate or graduate level or high school journalist may apply for consideration.

Audemars Piguet Ambassador Brendan Grace Wins at Home During the Nedbank Golf Challenge

Branden Grace wears a Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph

(Le Brassus) – Branden Grace won his eighth European Tour title on Sunday 12 November at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player in Sun City.

The final group composed of Grace, Victor Dubuisson and Scott Jamieson engaged in an exciting battle on the last day. The trio shared the lead with four holes to play, but an extraordinary 40-foot birdie putt on the 16th moved Branden to the winning score of eleven-under par, one shot ahead of Jamieson.

Branden hit all 18 greens in regulation and recorded a bogey-free final round as he became South Africa’s first home winner in a decade.

The 29-year old commented: "This is awesome. This is the one event that as a South African you want to win. It's Africa's Major for a reason and what a special place it is. There is a lot of history and a lot of great winners on the trophy and I'm very glad to be able to put my name on the trophy as well.”

This victory moved Branden not only into a tie for fourth on the list of all-time South African European Tour winners, but also into the top-10 of the Race to Dubai just before this week’s final event, and into the top-30 of the Official World Golf Ranking.

Fellow Audemars Piguet Golf Dream Team member Lee Westwood finished tied sixth at five-under par.

These results show once again the strength of Audemars Piguet’s golf ambassadors, who all embody the brand’s philosophy “To break the rules, you must first master them”: Ben An, Bud Cauley, Darren Clarke, Paul Dunne, Emiliano Grillo, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Andrew Johnston, Romain Langasque, Renato Paratore, Ian Poulter, Xander Schauffele, Henrik Stenson, Vijay Singh, Andy Sullivan, Peter Uihlein, Bernd Wiesberger and Danny Willett.

Spieth's Swing Coach Launches Digital Instruction Series

Cameron McCormick, Jordan Spieth’s Long-Time Swing Coach, Adds Instructional Television to His Resume with New Digital Series

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The coaching tips that have propelled the careers of some of the world’s most successful golfers, including three-time Major Champion Jordan Spieth, are now available to any golfer through the video series, The Skill Code, hosted by 2015 PGA Teacher of the Year Cameron McCormick. The digital series is now available for download exclusively on Revolution Golf for a limited time before it airs on Golf Channel.

McCormick announced in October his first entree into televised instruction, becoming an official member of the team of expert instructors featured on Golf Channel and Revolution Golf. As part of the new multi-year relationship, McCormick will host The Skill Code instructional series – debuting on Revolution Golf as both a downloadable digital version and a DVD set – where he will share with golfers the knowledge he has cultivated over a 20-year coaching career, along with his creative approach to incorporating a wider perspective on what it takes to improve golf performance.

“I want to empower the average golfer with the means to not only understand but also apply concepts that I’m going to deliver in The Skill Code. Rather than hope and wish that there are great shots coming, to actually make it happen right now,” McCormick said during his appearance today on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive.  “So, we’ll call it ‘democratization’ of an understanding of those elements that give rise to really good shots.”

Watch a video clip of McCormick’s appearance on Morning Drive here.

The Skill Code comprises 12 episodes, with bonus content featuring an exclusive interview with McCormick, as well as five additional golf tips. Buyers also will receive an invitation to a live Q&A event in January with Revolution Golf instructors, as well as a discount on Revolution Golf+, the website’s subscription program offering member-exclusive content. The digital version sells for $47, with the four-disc DVD set selling for $57, plus shipping (shipping is free for RG+ members).

Golf Channel’s advanced production elements included the use of seven cameras and slow-motion video, as well as abundant graphics to help identify key message points and nuances to one of golf’s most complicated movements – the golf swing. In this exclusive video series, he shows viewers how to:
· Gain an extra 15-20 yards off the tee
· Build a solid swing that repeats
· Make the most of practice time
· Hit a power draw for extra accuracy and distance
· Build a short game to help save 5-10 shots a round in the next 30 days

In addition to Spieth, McCormick’s renowned roster of students includes more than 13 PGA, Web.com and LPGA Tour players, 10 of the Top-100 players in the World Junior Golf Rankings, and four of Top-100 players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
